Hey Augustine

Flat Earth Blog, Vol.3

(NOTE: Keep reading for our big announcement.)

In the months and years before we bought our big old house, the house seemed to provide a spark of creativity and ideas. I drove past it at least twice a day on my way to work and back home again. Sure it would solve some of the practical day to day dilemma’s of having a large family, which has proven true. But, it was the ‘other’ more fringe benefits of living in a big house that began to launch fireworks in my brain. I began to see it not only as a living space, but as a music venue!

There are so many people making good music these days. And, technology is constantly providing new ways to listen and find and share this music with friends. Many of us who actively listen to music rarely turn on the radio (away with the music gatekeepers). If we do, we rarely hear the stuff we really like, and almost never find something new. Meanwhile, all of those folks making good new music are eager to perform their songs in front of a live audience. Trust me, I know. I’ve been there, and I will be there again soon. Lord willing.

So, it’s been a long time plan for us to operate a small scale music venue from our home. To be an outlet for up and coming musicians, or a stop in-between for touring bands. To start a music community that is friendly to both artists and music fans. All of our events will be free with a recommended donation amount that is calculated based on the needs of the artist. We will not make a profit on any of our events. On the contrary, we will (gladly) be putting ourselves at risk of losing money with each event with the hope that the cost burden will be shared by those who attend. It is our desire that in time our home will make a name for itself with both musicians and music fans as a beautiful place to bless and be blessed by the gift of music.

Without further delay, it is my pleasure to announce that we will be hosting THE GRAY HAVENS in our home on February 20, 2015! This wonderful husband and wife duo is currently on tour in support of their recently released album, Fire and Stone. Please follow us on the social media sites for more information about this event that is now only a little more than two weeks away. Read the details and reserve your seat at the event here. And please check out The Gray Havens website or look for them on social media.

We are very excited for this inaugural event. It’s a long time in the making, and we couldn’t be happier with the first artists we will have the opportunity to host! Hope to see you soon!
